One of the most distinct differences is that Masons are not allowed to solicit the public for members. If someone wishes to become a Mason, they must take the first step and make their desires known to a Mason or a Lodge of Free & Accepted Masons within his community. Once that step is taken, the individual begins his journey on the path to becoming a Mason.
